Privacy

Last updated 18 October 2026

Jeff's Cookbook has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. This page lists everything the site keeps, and why. There's no cookie banner because nothing here needs your consent: it only stores what you ask it to.

In your browser

  • Your choice of metric or imperial units.
  • The ingredients you add to “What's in your kitchen?”, so they're still there next time.
  • The stars you gave a recipe, so you can see your own rating when you come back.
  • A cookie called “voter” with a random number, but only once you rate a recipe. It lets you change your rating later.

All of this stays on your device. You can clear it at any time in your browser's settings.

Ratings

When you rate a recipe, the site keeps the number of stars, the random number from your “voter” cookie and a scrambled code made from your IP address. Your IP address itself is never stored, and the code can't be turned back into it.

The code means one network can rate each recipe once, so ratings can't be stuffed by clearing cookies. Ratings are kept as long as the recipe is on the site.

Visitor numbers

The site counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn't follow you across sites. It shows which pages are read, roughly where from and on what kind of device, never who you are.

Who runs it

Vercel hosts the site and its photos; Neon hosts its database. They process data only to run the site.

Your rights

You can ask what's stored about you, or have your ratings removed. Send an email to the address below; it helps to say which recipes you rated.
